Inclusive Recreation

Community Access

The Yard is being built around a simple promise: small-sided soccer should create room for more people to move, play, connect, and feel welcome.

Set-Aside Time for Groups Who Need Access

As The Yard grows, we want to reserve weekly or seasonal hours for children with disabilities, adaptive recreation groups, economically disadvantaged youth, and other community groups that may need help finding safe, welcoming ways to get active.

These sessions could be organized with nonprofit partners, schools, parent groups, coaches, volunteers, or local service providers. The goal is not just to open the gate, but to create predictable time where the space is intentionally ready for the people using it.

Adaptive Play Smaller groups, flexible rules, and welcoming support for different abilities.
Active Kids Movement-focused sessions that help children build confidence and routine.
Partner Hours Reserved blocks that nonprofits or local groups can help shape and promote.

Working With Groups Already Serving Families

Local Disability Service Organizations

Erie County maintains a directory of agencies and services for people with disabilities, including recreational programs and organizations serving children, adults, and families. View the directory.

Youth and Family Nonprofits

The Yard could coordinate dedicated play hours with organizations that already know the needs of local children and families.

Schools and Community Groups

Simple field time, predictable scheduling, and flexible programming can help groups use soccer as a practical path into physical activity.
